Commissioned by the Municipality of Hoorn, CI-Engineers is responsible for the design of a new cycle bridge at Reaal-Dukaat in Hoorn. The new composite bridge will replace the existing structure, several components of which are approaching the end of their design service life. As a result, the municipality has decided to replace the entire bridge with a new, sustainable structure.
The bridge is designed to accommodate cyclists, pedestrians and, where necessary, maintenance vehicles.
The new bridge features a hybrid structure combining concrete, steel and fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. The design focuses on both structural safety and long-term sustainability.
Durability is achieved through the use of glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) components, the selection of appropriate environmental exposure classes for the concrete elements, and suitable corrosion protection measures for the steel components.
CI-Engineers is responsible for the structural design and calculations of all bridge components, including both the superstructure and substructure, through to the detailed design for construction.
