Rijkswaterstaat is extending the A16 motorway with a new section of road between the A13 motorway at Rotterdam The Hague Airport and the A16/A20 motorways at the Terbregseplein junction. This new section of the A16 motorway, between Lage Bergse forest and the Rotte river, will also consist of a tunnel under lush greenery with water features (photo).
This land tunnel (red circle) will be the first energy-neutral national tunnel in the Netherlands. The new 11 km section of the A16 motorway will improve the flow of traffic on the A13, A16/A20 motorways and the surrounding local roads, enhancing the region’s accessibility and quality of life. The road will be opened for traffic in 2024.
CI-Engineers is responsible for modelling the land tunnel in Revit 3D.
