Since November 2021, CI-Engineers has been working on a construction in the Binnenspuikanaal of the lock complex in IJmuiden. It’s a kind of (saltwater) mail slot. Because saltwater is denser than freshwater, it flows back to the sea through an opening at the bottom of the structure. The freshwater is held back and remains in the North Sea Canal.
The construction mainly consists of heavy combi-walls that are anchored, as well as 2 fish passages that serve as a safe entrance for fish towards the North Sea.
The first visible activities will start around October 2022, and the entire project will be completed by the end of 2024.
