The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge in Turkey spans the Dardanelles Strait, a narrow strait connecting the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara. The bridge forms part of the route between Çanakkale and Tekirdağ and provides a direct road connection between Asia and Europe.
The bridge has two carriageways, each with three traffic lanes. It has a main span of 2,023 metres between the towers, making it the suspension bridge with the longest main span in the world.
The foundations of the two towers consist of two enormous caissons measuring approximately 85 × 80 metres, with heights of 35 and 47 metres respectively. These caissons were constructed in a dry dock. From there, they were transported via a wet dock to their final locations, where they were accurately positioned and submerged onto a gravel bed.
CI-Engineers prepared the phasing drawings for the transport of the caissons from the dry dock, via the wet dock, to their final positions during the immersion process.
The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge was officially opened to traffic on 18 March 2022.
