Working at CI
Project Petrokemia - CI-Engineers

Petrokemia

PROJECT description

On behalf of Technip Benelux, CI-Engineers worked on the renovation of the foundation for an insulated Cold Box installation forming part of an ethylene refinery in Saudi Arabia.

The insulated Cold Box installation consists of a 6.5 x 6.5 metre tower with a height of 30 metres. The vessels and piping inside the Cold Box can reach temperatures as low as -180°C.

Several disciplines were involved in the renovation, including piping, architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, fire protection, heating and ventilation, process engineering and transport.

Role of CI-Engineers

CI-Engineers assessed whether the existing foundation was still suitable based on input from the various disciplines involved.

For this assessment, we reviewed the original structural calculations and drawings and prepared specifications for non-destructive testing of the foundation on site. Acoustic testing was carried out to identify potential discontinuities within the concrete, including sounding tests. Magnetic scanning was also used to determine the configuration of the reinforcement.

Based on the results of these investigations, it was determined whether the existing foundation remained adequate or required modification.

The work started in June 2018 and was completed at the end of 2018.
