Project Vernieuwde N31 - CI-Engineers

Renewed N31

PROJECT description

The renewed N31 forms part of the direct road connection between Amsterdam and Leeuwarden via the Afsluitdijk and Harlingen. The road was redeveloped to improve the accessibility of Friesland, enhance traffic safety and improve traffic flow in and around Harlingen.

In the new situation, the N31 crosses the Van Harinxma Canal near Harlingen through an aqueduct. As a result, road traffic no longer has to wait at the Koningsbrug when vessels pass through the canal.

The railway line also crosses the N31 at a different level, with the railway running above the road.

Role of CI-Engineers

During the detailed design phase, CI-Engineers was responsible for the engineering drawings for the pump chambers associated with the viaducts and the open-cut section of the N31.
